XP Tricks

THIS UTILITY DOES NOT CHANGEANYTHING TO DO WITH USER ACCOUNTS **
v1.1.0 - Added a check for Registry Write Permissions. Non-Administrators cannot change these values. Users who do not have "write" permissions for these values will receive an error message.
XP_ChangeOwnerOrg.exe is a Visual Basic 6 program which will check your System Registry and retrieve the Registered Owner and Registered Organization information, and allow you to change it. This utility may run on Windows 2000, but you'll need the VB6 Runtimes installed. For compatibility, the VB Script version is still available as well.
To use: Download either the VB Script version, or the EXE version.
EXE Version: Download the ChangeOwnerOrg.zip file and save it to your hard drive. Double-click the ChangeOwnerOrg.zip file and extract the EXE file inside to your hard drive. Double click ChangeOwnerOrg.exe to run the program.


xp_taskmgrenab.exe - Allows you to enable or disable Task Manager for the Current UserCopyright 2003 - Doug Knox
This small GUI (Graphical User Interface) utility allows you to easily enable or disable Task Manager. The only time its useful, or effective, is when you see this error message when you try to use Task Manager.
Download xp_taskmgrenab.zip. Open the ZIP file and extract or run the EXE inside.

This small GUI (Graphical User Interface) utility will check the Registry associations that cause this problem, and notify you if they need to be corrected. You will then have the opportunity to correct them, by clicking the Repair button. This application is freeware.
Windows XP Only. Requires VB6 Runtime Library (installed on XP by default).

XP_DesktopIconRename.exe - Rename System (Desktop) Icons© Doug Knox - 2003
This small VB 6 utility will allow you to rename the My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places, Recycle Bin and the default Internet Explorer on the Desktop. This is a per user setting.
To use: Download the XP_DesktopIconRename.zip file and save it to your hard drive. Double-click the XP_DesktopIconRename.zip file and extract XP_DesktopIconRename.exe to your hard disk. To run the EXE just double click it, there is no installer. You will be shown the current names of the 5 desktop icons that can be renamed with this utility.
Operating Systems: Windows XP only. Requires VB 6 Runtime Libraries, included in Windows® XP.
